These are not the pretty cookies you bake and take home to your mama. These are the cookies you find the recipe for at four in the morning, drunk in an alleyway, and figure, “What the hell. Nobody will know.” They are ugly whores of cookies, ladies and gentleman – but they taste fantastic. (Incorporate that tidbit into the extended metaphor as you will.)

In essence, they are espresso brownies with mini chocolate chips and walnuts chucked onto a cookie tray. I decided, about one cookie tray later, that I didn’t like the way that made them all weird and pancakey-looking, so I baked the rest of the batch in muffin tins. (If you grease the tins, the cookies will come out of them prettier) This is an absolutely delicious idea, enough to overlook the fact that these cookies are, you know. Homely.
